First, make sure the timber is clean, dry and free from loose material. Remove any flaking paint or rotten wood back to a sound surface.

Next, press the filler firmly into the hole or defect with a filling knife, slightly proud of the surface, in layers no deeper than about 5 mm.

Then let each layer dry before adding the next for deeper repairs, and leave it slightly raised to allow for a light sanding.

Finally, sand smooth once dry, then paint, stain or varnish to finish. For deep or structural repairs that must be drilled or planed, use our tougher 2 Part Wood Filler instead.

How deep a repair can it fill?

Up to about 5 mm per application. For deeper holes, build it up in thin layers, letting each dry first, or use the 2 Part Wood Filler for a one-pass deep repair.

Can I use it outside?

Yes. It is suitable for interior and exterior use, including repairing wood damaged by wet rot.

Can I paint or stain over it?

Yes, once it has dried and been sanded smooth you can paint, stain or varnish it. Choose a shade close to your timber for the best match.

Which colour should I pick?

Match it to the timber: Dark Oak, Light Oak, Pine or Teak for wood tones, or White for painted surfaces and MDF.

Does it shrink?

Fill slightly proud and sand back, because, as with most fillers, a little shrinkage can occur on deeper fills. Thin layers reduce this.

How is it different from the 2 Part Wood Filler?

This one-part filler is ready mixed and ideal for small holes and sills. The 2 Part filler is a polyester resin that sets hard to any depth in 30 minutes and can be drilled, planed and carved, so it suits larger, structural repairs.
