First, make sure the surface is sound and dry. Over a bituminous surface, the first coat should be the thinnest needed to obliterate the black colour.

Next, apply by brush or mohair roller, keeping the coat thin and avoiding pools.

Then let the first coat dry fully before applying a thin second coat.

Finally, do not apply when rain, frost or overnight dew are expected before it dries, because bronzing can result. For the bitumen base coat itself, see our Bitumen Paint.

What does solar reflective paint do?

It reflects light and heat away from the roof, reducing heat gain and protecting the coating beneath from UV and solar degradation.

What can I apply it over?

Bituminous coatings, aged asphalt and primed steel, including the refurbishment of aged steel roofing. For a fresh bitumen base, use our Bitumen Paint first.

How many coats?

Two thin coats. Let the first dry fully before the second, and keep both thin to avoid pools.

Why must I avoid rain, frost or dew before it dries?

If the surface gets wet or cold before the coat dries, bronzing (a dull discolouration) can occur. Pick a dry spell with no overnight dew expected.

Is it better than chippings?

Yes, it is offered as a superior alternative to chippings, reducing heat build-up with a clean reflective finish and less weight.
