What is the difference between a contact adhesive and a grab adhesive?
A contact adhesive is coated on both surfaces, left touch dry, then pressed together for an instant bond across the whole area, which is ideal for laminates and sheet materials. A grab adhesive like Gripbond is gunned from a cartridge onto one surface for fixing trims and panels. Choose contact for bonding large flat areas, grab for fixing lengths and boards.
Can I use it on laminate worktops?
Yes. It is well suited to laminated plastics such as Formica, as well as wood, metal and stone.
Why do I leave it until touch dry before joining?
That is how a neoprene contact adhesive works. The solvent flashes off, and the two dry films grab instantly when pressed together. Joining while wet gives a weak bond.
Which plastics should I avoid?
Do not use it on polystyrene, polythene, polypropylene, silicone rubber or soft (plasticised) PVC. Test rigid PVCu before use.
Can I use it outside?
It is primarily for interior use but can be used externally if protected from direct sunlight and water. It is not for continuous water immersion.
How much will I need?
Expect roughly 5 m² per litre applied by trowel, or around 8 m² per litre by brush, depending on the surface.
Is it safe to use indoors?
It is toluene-free, but it is still solvent-based, so keep the area well ventilated and away from naked flames while the solvent flashes off.
