What is scrim tape used for?
Reinforcing plasterboard and drywall joints, and repairing cracks and holes, so the finished plaster does not crack or blister along the joint.
Do I need to plaster before applying it?
No. The self-adhesive backing lets you stick it straight over the joint, which saves a pre-plastering step. Then skim or joint-fill over the top.
Can I reposition it?
Yes, it can be repositioned during installation to keep it centred and flat before you bed it in.
Which width should I choose?
48 mm suits standard board joints; 100 mm gives extra cover for wider cracks, patch repairs and problem joints.
Will it stop cracks coming back?
The fibreglass mesh bridges and reinforces the joint, which greatly reduces cracking and blistering compared with jointing without scrim.
What temperature can I apply it at?
Between +5 °C and +35 °C, and it works with setting-type jointing compounds.
