Description

This is the lighter 4.0mm gauge of the C2 Clamp-Fix, driven with a TX20 bit. The partial thread does the clever bit: it pulls two pieces of timber together and stops them jacking apart, so the joint closes up tight. The twin-cut point starts fast and cuts down on splitting near edges. A good size for lighter timber-to-timber jobs like studwork, panelling and trim.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Partial thread from 40mm. The unthreaded shank pulls the timbers together and stops them jacking apart, which is the difference between a tight joint and a gappy one.
  • Patented C2 Twin-Cut point. Two cutting edges bore in fast and cut down on splitting, so most jobs need no pilot hole.
  • Precision TX40 drive, bit included. Deep engagement stops cam-out when you're driving under load.
  • Double countersunk head with ribs. The ribs under the collar clear their own recess for a clean, flush finish.
  • Gleitmo lubrication. Up to 52% less driving torque and rust protection up to 20 times longer than standard zinc plating.
  • Hardened steel, Zinc & Yellow (ZYP) gold finish. A tough screw with a smart passivated coat.
  • Made to BS EN 14592:2008 with a Corrosion Rating of 2 for indoor work.
  • Multi-material grip. Bites into hardwood, softwood, chipboard, MDF, thin sheet metal and plastic.

Usage / Application

  • Timber studwork and partition framing
  • Panelling and batten work
  • Roof framework and decking framework, timber-to-timber
  • General timber-to-timber fixing where the two faces need to clamp up flush

This is a Corrosion Rating 2 screw for indoor use. Keep it for dry, protected framing rather than exposed outdoor timber.

FAQs

What is timber jacking and how does the Clamp-Fix stop it?

Jacking is when a screw pushes two timbers apart instead of pulling them together. It happens when the thread grabs the top piece and lifts it off the one below, leaving a gap. The Clamp-Fix has no thread on the shank near the head. That smooth section slips through the top timber, so only the bottom timber gets threaded. The screw then pulls the two faces tight and clamps them, gap-free.

What is the difference between C2 Clamp-Fix and C2 Strong-Fix?

Both use the patented C2 Twin-Cut point, but the thread is the difference. The Strong-Fix is fully threaded, so it grips the full depth of the fix and holds hard. The Clamp-Fix is partially threaded, so it draws timbers together and clamps the joint. Reach for the Clamp-Fix on timber-to-timber work where the faces must sit flush. Reach for the Strong-Fix for general multi-purpose holding power.

Why choose a partially threaded screw over a fully threaded one?

A fully threaded screw grips both timbers at once, so any gap between them gets locked in place. A partial thread only bites the far timber. The plain shank lets the near timber pull down, which squeezes the joint shut. That clamping action is exactly what you want on studwork and framing.

What TX bit do these framing screws take?

They take a TX40 bit, and one is supplied in the box. The Precision TX drive gives deep engagement so the bit stays seated and won't cam out when you're driving hard.

Do I need to drill a pilot hole?

Usually not. The C2 Twin-Cut point bores its own way in and reduces splitting on most timbers. Near an end or edge, or in dense hardwood, a quick pilot hole is still sensible to be safe.

Can I use these outdoors?

No. These are Corrosion Rating 2 and rated for indoor use. For exposed or wet outdoor timber, pick a screw with a higher corrosion rating instead.
