What is a clout nail?
A short nail with a large flat head, made to hold sheet materials like felt, mesh and slates tight to timber without tearing them.
What are clout nails used for?
Fixing roofing felt, sheet materials, mesh and slates to timber, plus general fencing and outdoor work. The wide flat head spreads the load so soft materials do not tear away.
What size clout nails for a shed roof?
For felt on a shed roof, use a short large-head clout of about 13 to 20mm so it holds the felt without punching through the boards; our extra large head clout nails suit this. For battens or thicker sheet, step up to 25 to 40mm.
Are galvanised clout nails suitable for outdoors?
Yes, corrosion rating 2 for roofing and sheltered outdoor work. For long-life felt, slates or coastal exposure, choose copper or aluminium clout nails instead.
