Description

This is the collated version of the TIMCO Classic screw in A2 stainless, loaded on strips that run in the leading collated guns. It brings stainless corrosion resistance to fast gun fixing, so it suits decking substructure, cladding, fencing and outdoor joinery where a plated screw would rust and hand-driving would be slow. Same countersunk head, sharp point and multi-purpose thread as the standard Classic stainless screw, just set up for a gun.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Made from A2-304 austenitic stainless steel for genuine corrosion resistance
  • Safe in corrosive timbers like green oak and cedar, where zinc screws stain and rust
  • Double countersunk head sinks flush and cuts down on head shear
  • Pozi PZ2 recess for a firm bit grip and less cam-out
  • Single coarse 40 degree thread for a strong, high pull-out fixing
  • Fully threaded up to and including 75mm for maximum grip through the joint
  • Sharp 25 degree point starts fast and clean
  • Corrosion Rating 4, suited to urban and industrial areas with a moderate salt atmosphere
  • Meets BS EN 14592:2008

FAQs

Why use stainless steel screws for oak and cedar?

Oak and cedar are acidic timbers. The tannins react with ordinary zinc or bright steel screws. You get black staining around the head and the fixing starts to rust. A2 stainless doesn't react in the same way. It stays put and keeps the timber clean, so it's the right choice for green oak, cedar and other corrosive woods.

What's the difference between A2 and A4 stainless?

A2 is 304-grade stainless. It handles general exterior use and urban or industrial conditions well. A4 is 316-grade, with added molybdenum for heavy salt exposure like marine and seafront work. These screws are A2 with a Corrosion Rating of 4, so they suit most outdoor jobs and moderate salt atmospheres. For a fully marine, salt-spray environment, step up to A4.

Do I need to pre-drill hardwood?

Yes. Drill a pilot hole in hardwood before you drive these. The point is a sharp 25 degree point, not a self-drilling tip, so a pilot stops the timber splitting and keeps the screw straight. Softwood usually takes them without pre-drilling, though a pilot near an edge is still good practice.

Are these screws fully threaded?

Sizes up to and including 75mm are fully threaded, so the thread grips right through the joint. Lengths of 80mm and above have a 70mm thread with a plain shank above it.

What driver bit do they take?

A Pozi PZ2 bit. The double countersunk head and pozi recess give a solid grip so the bit's less likely to cam out under load.

Can I use them outside?

Yes. That's what they're built for. The A2 stainless material and Corrosion Rating 4 make them suitable for external joinery, cladding, garden structures and exposed sites with moderate salt in the air.
