What's the difference between coarse and fine thread drywall screws?

It comes down to what you're fixing into. Coarse thread screws, like these, are for plasterboard onto timber studs. The wide thread grips softwood and pulls in. Fine thread screws are for plasterboard onto metal studs. Match the thread to the stud and you'll get a clean, tight fix.
