Description

These are TIMCO's self-drilling metal framing screws with a square (Robertson) recess and a pan head. The square drive grips hard and resists cam-out, which helps when you are driving a lot of screws into light steel framing. The self-drilling point cuts the steel with no pre-drilling. A light duty metal-to-metal screw for interior framing and track work. Silver zinc finish.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Very low, wide pancake head gives a large flat bearing surface that sits close to flush.
  • Self-drilling point bites into light gauge steel with no pre-drilling.
  • Phillips PH2 recess for a firm, positive drive.
  • Silver organic exterior coating, tested beyond 500 hours of salt spray.
  • Medium duty metal-to-metal hold for steel framing and thin sheet.
  • Flush head clears the way for plasterboard or sheet laid over the frame.

Usage / Application

These screws earn their keep wherever a standard raised head would sit proud and get in the way of the next layer.

  • Fixing light steel framing and metal studs section to section.
  • Lapping and joining thin steel sheet.
  • Metal framing that will be boarded over, such as plasterboard on metal stud.
  • Steel-to-steel fixing where a flush finish matters.
  • Medium duty framing work on light gauge steel.

FAQs

What is a pancake head screw?

A pancake head screw has a very low, wide head with a large flat face underneath. That flat bearing surface spreads the load and sits close to flush, so anything laid over the fixing stays flat.

Why use a low profile head under plasterboard?

On metal stud, a standard raised head would push the board out and leave a bump. The pancake head sits almost flush against the steel, so plasterboard or sheet sits flat over the frame.

Do these screws self-drill?

Yes. The self-drilling point cuts its own hole through light gauge steel, so there's no separate pilot drilling on thin steel framing.

What thickness of steel can they fix?

They're made for metal-to-metal work in light gauge steel framing. For heavier or thicker sections, check the gauge against the screw's drill point before you commit.

What drive do they take?

A Phillips PH2 bit. Keep the bit seated and drive it straight for a clean, positive fit.

Are they suitable for exterior framing?

The silver organic coating is tested past 500 hours of salt spray, so they cope with damp and exterior framing during construction.
