Description

Galvanised round wire nails are the general-purpose nail for outdoor and sheltered timber work. The zinc coating gives medium-duty rust protection (corrosion rating 2), so they hold up on fencing, sheds and exterior framing where a bright nail would rust. Flat round head, plain carbon steel shank, in sizes from 40mm to 150mm, sold loose by weight.

FAQs

Can I use galvanised round wire nails outside?

Yes. The galvanised coating is corrosion rating 2, which suits sheltered and occasionally damp outdoor work such as fencing and sheds. For coastal or permanently wet conditions, step up to stainless steel.

What is the difference between bright and galvanised nails?

Bright nails are uncoated and for dry interior use only. Galvanised nails carry a zinc coating for rust protection, so they hold up outdoors and in damp, sheltered spots.

What size galvanised nail do I need?

Aim for a nail roughly three times the thickness of the timber you are fixing. The range runs 40mm to 150mm, sold loose by weight.

Are galvanised nails suitable for treated timber?

For general treated softwood in sheltered spots they are fine. Modern high-treatment timber and damp exposure are harsher, so for those use stainless steel to avoid the coating breaking down.
