Key Features & Benefits

  • 30 micron aluminium foil backing with a solvent acrylic cold-weather adhesive
  • UL 723:2008 Class 'O' rated when tested to BS 476 on foil-faced insulation panels
  • Service temperature -35 °C to +120 °C, applies down to -20 °C
  • 0 g/(m²·h) water vapour transmission rate, acts as a vapour seal
  • Adhesion to steel 15 N/25 mm; tensile strength 45 N/25 mm
  • High aluminium reflectance helps reduce radiant heat loss across insulation seams
  • Easy-release silicone paper, keeps the adhesive face clean until peeled
  • Good aging resistance both indoors and outdoors

Usage / Application

First, wipe the substrate clean, dry and free from grease, dust and loose material. Because the cold-weather adhesive grips on a cold surface, you do not need to warm the substrate, but it must be clean.

Next, cut the tape to length with shears or a sharp knife. The aluminium foil is not hand-tearable, so a clean straight cut sits down better than a torn end and gives a neater seam.

Then peel back the silicone release paper and apply the tape across the seam. Press firmly along the centre and out to the edges to bed the adhesive into the foil face. Work the full length to remove air bubbles.

Finally, store unused rolls in original packaging at +21 °C and 50% relative humidity, out of direct sunlight. Heat and UV exposure age the adhesive in storage and shorten the working shelf life.

FAQs

What makes this a cold-weather foil tape?

The solvent acrylic adhesive is formulated to grip down to -20 °C application temperature, far below the +10 °C minimum on most general foil tapes. That makes it the right choice for early-morning loft work, winter HVAC plant rooms, and any outdoor seam taping where the substrate stays cold.

Is the tape fire rated?

Yes. Silverback meets UL 723:2008 Class 'O' when tested to BS 476 on foil-faced insulation panels. That makes it suitable for finishing PIR and PUR insulation board joints where fire performance of the seam matters, including loft insulation and warm roof builds.

Will it seal Celotex and Kingspan PIR board joints?

Yes. Foil-faced insulation board joints are a primary application, and the cold-weather adhesive helps on early-morning installs when the foil face is cold. The 0 g/(m²·h) water vapour transmission rate also means the tape acts as a vapour seal across the joint.

Can it be used on HVAC ductwork?

Yes, HVAC duct seams and flexible air duct joints are core uses. Service temperature range is -35 °C to +120 °C, which covers most residential and commercial ductwork. For higher-temperature ducting beyond +120 °C, switch to a high-temperature foil tape instead.

Is it hand-tearable?

No, aluminium foil tapes need shears, snips or a sharp knife to cut. A clean straight cut sits down better against the substrate than a torn end and gives a neater finish across the seam. Remove the silicone release paper just before applying so the adhesive face stays clean.
