Description

TIMCO Solo Countersunk Wood Screws are single-thread, double-countersunk woodscrews. They're made from carbon steel with a zinc & yellow passivated (ZYP) finish and manufactured to BS EN 14592:2008. The Solo range fixes into softwood, chipboard and MDF. Add a suitable plug and they'll go into masonry too. You get 98 size variants here, from 3.0mm to 6.0mm diameter and 12mm to 200mm length, so there's a size for most trade and serious DIY jobs.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Double countersunk head: seats the screw flush and reduces the risk of head shear under load.
  • 40° single deep thread: bites hard into timber for strong pull-out resistance and a secure fixing.
  • 25° sharp point: starts fast and pulls the screw in with less effort.
  • Pozi drive recess: positive bit engagement (PZ1 at 3.0mm, PZ2/PZ3 on larger sizes) that cuts down cam-out.
  • Wax lubricated: lowers driving torque, speeds insertion and adds a bit of corrosion resistance.
  • Zinc & yellow passivated (ZYP): corrosion rating 1 for clean, dry, low-humidity interior use.
  • Fully threaded up to 75mm: lengths of 80mm and above carry a 70mm thread for controlled clamping.

Usage / Application

Use them for general timber fixing, carpentry, joinery, furniture assembly and second-fix work in softwood, chipboard and MDF. With a suitable plastic plug they'll also drive into masonry. One thing to watch: at corrosion rating 1 these are interior screws, meant for clean, dry conditions. For anything external or damp, pick an exterior-grade screw instead.

FAQs

What are countersunk wood screws?

Countersunk wood screws have a flat, cone-shaped head that sits flush with the timber surface, or just below it, for a neat finish. TIMCO Solo screws use a double-countersunk head, so they seat cleanly and resist head shear.

What does the double countersunk head do?

Small ribs sit beneath the main countersink. As the head seats, they cut their own recess, which gives a cleaner flush finish and spreads the load so the head is less likely to shear off.

Do TIMCO Solo screws need a pilot hole?

In most softwoods, no. The 25° sharp point and single deep thread start and drive without one. Working close to an edge, or into hardwood or dense boards? Drill a pilot hole first to stop the timber splitting.

Which Pozi bit do they take?

Use a PZ1 driver bit for the 3.0mm size. Larger diameters take a PZ2 or PZ3. A snug bit fit reduces cam-out and protects the recess.

Can they be used outdoors?

No. The zinc & yellow passivated finish is corrosion rating 1, which covers clean, dry, low-humidity interiors only. For outdoor or damp spots, go for an exterior-grade screw.

Are they fully threaded?

Every length up to and including 75mm is fully threaded. Lengths of 80mm and above have a 70mm thread, leaving a smooth shank that helps pull the joint tight.
