First, make sure the thread is clean, dry and free from dust and old sealant.

Next, unwind a short length and apply it to the thread, pulling firmly after the first turn to anchor it. Wrap in the direction that tightens as the fitting is screwed on.

Then keep the tape just back from the leading edge of the thread, so loose ends cannot break off into the water system.

Finally, pull to break the tape off neatly and assemble the joint. For a liquid thread sealant on larger metal threads, use an appropriate pipe jointing compound instead.

Can I use it on gas pipes?

No. This is a water-rated PTFE tape and is not suitable for gas. Use a gas-rated jointing product for gas fittings.

Is it safe for drinking water?

Yes, it is WRAS listed and conforms to BS 6920, so it is suitable for use on potable (drinking) water pipework.

Which way do I wrap it?

In the same direction the fitting screws on, so it tightens rather than unravels, and keep it just back from the thread's leading edge.

How many wraps do I need?

Enough to fill the thread and seal, typically several turns, more on coarse or tapered threads. Pull firmly so it beds into the thread.

Will it work on plastic fittings?

Yes, it suits plastic, brass and other metal fittings and pipes, including radiator tails and male tapered threads.
