Description

These TIMCO wafer head timber frame screws take the place of a coach screw on heavy timber-to-timber work. The wafer head sits almost flush and pulls the joint up tight, so you get a strong clamp without a bulky bolt head sticking proud of the face. You drive them with the TX30 recess, and a TX30 S2 bit comes in the box. No spanner. On most softwoods there's no need to pre-drill either. The exterior green organic coating takes 1,000 hours of salt spray, so these hold up outside through the seasons.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Wafer head countersinks cleanly for a low profile finish and gives you improved clamping through the joint.
  • TX30 drive with a TX30 S2 bit included, so you can get cracking straight out of the box.
  • 6.7mm diameter with a 50 degree single deep thread, partially threaded for a firm pull-together and strong pull-out resistance.
  • 25 degree sharp point with a single slash. It bites fast and helps cut down on splitting.
  • Helix shank clears debris as the screw drives and tightens the clamp as it goes home.
  • Exterior green organic finish tested to 1,000 hours salt spray to BS EN ISO 9227.
  • Carbon steel body to BS EN 14592:2008 with a Corrosion Rating of 3, suited to urban and industrial settings with a low salt atmosphere.
  • A real coach screw alternative for timber-to-timber fixings, driven with a driver rather than a spanner.

Usage / Application

Built for framing and landscaping, and just as at home on decking, fencing, stairs, roofing, gazebos, pergolas and sleepers. They suit both hardwood and softwood substrates. Reach for them wherever you'd normally sink a coach screw but want a faster fix and a tidier head.

FAQs

What's the difference between the wafer head and the hex head version?

Both do the same structural job, but the head sits differently. The hex flange head stands proud and takes a socket. This wafer head countersinks flush into the timber for a low profile finish, and you drive it with a TX30 bit instead of a spanner. Pick the wafer when you want the head out of the way or hidden.

Do I need to pre-drill?

On most softwoods, no. The 25 degree sharp point with its single slash starts on its own and the helix shank clears the waste as it drives. Near the end of a board, on dense hardwood, or on brittle timber, a clearance pilot hole is worth doing to keep things from splitting.

Can I use these outside?

Yes. The exterior green organic coating is tested to 1,000 hours of salt spray to BS EN ISO 9227 and carries a Corrosion Rating of 3. That covers external timber work in urban and industrial areas with a low salt atmosphere, such as decking, fencing and landscaping.

Are these a proper coach screw alternative?

They are. TIMCO builds these as a coach screw replacement for timber-to-timber fixings. The 6.7mm shank, 50 degree deep thread and wafer head give you the clamp and pull-out resistance of a coach screw, and you drive them straight in with a TX30 bit. No spanner, no washer to fit.

What bit do they take, and is it supplied?

They take a TX30 recess, and a TX30 S2 bit comes in the box. Keep it seated fully when you drive to avoid camming out, especially on the longer 125mm plus lengths going into dense timber.

Will one length cover framing and decking?

These start at 6.7mm diameter across 13 variants from roughly 125mm upward, so you can match the length to the timber you're joining. Deeper framing and sleeper work wants the longer options. As a rule, aim to get the thread well into the second piece of timber for a solid clamp.
