Description

This is the small PZ1 gauge of the TIMCO twin-thread woodscrew. The twin thread and single lead start drive it in fast, and the finer shank suits light work in soft timber, trim, beading and small fittings, where a bigger screw would split the wood. Countersunk head sinks flush. Zinc plated for indoor and dry use. Same traditional twin-thread grip as the larger sizes, just in a slimmer gauge.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 60° twin threads with parallel shank: two threads mean faster insertion and strong pull-out resistance in timber.
  • Double countersunk head: seats flush and cuts the risk of head shear under load.
  • Pozi PZ2 recess: positive bit engagement that reduces cam-out and chewed heads.
  • 25° sharp point, single lead: starts quickly and takes the thread on the first turn.
  • Hardened for driving: surface hardness up to 750 HV for torque resistance, core up to 450 HV for ductility so the screw takes load without snapping.
  • Zinc finish (silver): corrosion rating 1 for clean, dry interior use.
  • Made to BS EN 14592:2008: a recognised standard for timber fasteners.

Usage / Application

Use them for general timber fixing, carpentry, joinery, furniture assembly and second-fix work in softwood. With a suitable plastic plug they'll also drive into masonry. One thing to watch: at corrosion rating 1 these are interior screws, meant for clean, dry conditions. For anything external or damp, pick an exterior-grade screw instead.

FAQs

What are twin thread wood screws?

Twin thread wood screws have two threads running down the shank instead of one. That extra thread bites into the timber faster and pulls the screw in with fewer turns, so they drive quickly and hold well. TIMCO's version pairs a 60 degree twin thread with a double countersunk head and a Pozi PZ2 recess.

Twin thread vs single thread, what's the difference?

A single-thread screw has one continuous thread and drives at a steady rate. A twin-thread screw has two threads set alongside each other, so it advances further per rotation for faster insertion, and the two threads share the grip for high pull-out resistance in softwood. Single-thread designs can suit some hardwoods and finer work, but for quick softwood fixing the twin thread is hard to beat.

What does the double countersunk head do?

Small ribs sit under the main countersink. As the head seats they cut their own recess, which gives a cleaner flush finish and spreads the load, so the head is less likely to shear off.

Do they need a pilot hole?

In most softwoods, no. The 25 degree sharp point and single lead start without one. Working close to an edge, or into dense or hard timber? Drill a pilot hole first to stop the wood splitting.

Which Pozi bit do they take?

These use a Pozi PZ2 recess, so a PZ2 driver bit is the match. A snug bit fit reduces cam-out and protects the recess.

Can they be used outdoors?

No. The zinc finish is corrosion rating 1, which covers clean, dry interiors only. For outdoor or damp spots, choose an exterior-grade screw.
