Description

These are TIMCO round head wood screws with a twin-thread pattern and a silver zinc finish. The head sits proud of the surface rather than sinking flush. That domed profile is the whole point. It pulls flat fittings down tight and holds them there, so the screw does the clamping instead of just filling a hole.

Reach for the round head when you're fixing something with a slim, flat fixing lug. Think shelf brackets, hinges, mending plates, catches and hooks. The wide bearing surface spreads the load across the fitting and keeps it firm. It also looks tidy. Where a countersunk screw needs to disappear, this one is meant to be seen, which suits ironmongery and traditional joinery.

The twin thread bites fast into softwood and pulls the timber up as it drives. There's a parallel shank and a sharp 25 degree point, so it starts clean and drives straight. The Pozi PZ2 recess takes the torque without the driver camming out. Fit a wall plug and you can drive them into masonry too.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Round (domed) head sits proud to clamp flat fittings down tight and give a neat, traditional finish.
  • 60 degree twin threads with a parallel shank for a fast drive and strong pull-out resistance in softwood.
  • Pozi PZ2 recess keeps the driver seated and cuts down on cam-out.
  • Sharp 25 degree point starts quickly and helps the thread take.
  • Silver zinc finish over carbon steel (C10-18) for interior corrosion protection (Rating 1).
  • Surface hardened up to 750 HV with a core up to 450 HV, so the screw resists shearing while keeping some give.
  • Partially threaded from 1 1/4 inch (32mm) upward for a firm clamping pull between parts.
  • 18 sizes across the range to suit light fittings through to heavier brackets.

Usage / Application

  • Fixing hinges, catches, hasps and small ironmongery to timber.
  • Mounting shelf brackets, mending plates and flat metal fixings.
  • Hanging hooks, eyes and fittings where a flat lug needs clamping down.
  • General interior joinery and softwood work that calls for a visible, domed head.
  • Light masonry fixings when paired with a suitable wall plug.

FAQs

What's the difference between round head and countersunk wood screws?

A countersunk screw pulls flush and vanishes into the surface. A round head screw stays proud, with a domed top that clamps flat fittings against the timber. Use round head when the fixing has a thin, flat lug that needs holding down, or when you want the head on show. Use countersunk when you want it hidden.

When should I use a round head wood screw?

Use one whenever you're fixing something flat and slim to timber, like a hinge leaf, a bracket, a mending plate or a catch. The wide domed head spreads the clamping load across the fitting and keeps it tight. It's also the tidy choice for ironmongery and traditional work where the screw head is meant to be seen.

Do round head screws countersink into the wood?

No. They're not meant to. The underside of the head bears down on the surface of the fitting or the timber and clamps it. If you try to bury a round head flush you'll just crush the fibres and lose grip. Drill a clearance and pilot hole, then drive until the head seats firmly.

Will these drive into masonry?

They will, with the right wall plug. Drill the masonry, push in a plug sized to the screw gauge, then drive the screw home. Into softwood you can usually go straight in after a pilot hole. The substrates listed are softwood and masonry with a plug.

Are these screws suitable for outdoor use?

They carry a Corrosion Rating of 1, which covers clean, dry, interior conditions. They're a solid interior fixing but they're not built for damp or exposed outdoor work. For outside jobs pick a screw with a higher corrosion rating or an exterior coating.

What size Pozi bit do these take?

A PZ2 bit. Every size in this range uses the same Pozi PZ2 recess, so one PZ2 driver bit covers the lot. A worn bit is the usual cause of cam-out, so swap it if it's rounded off.
